The Niger River and its tributaries are a lifeline to the rural and urban communities in the Upper Niger Basin: they provide water, food and energy and constitute main transport routes. A proper management of the Niger’s water resources is crucial to these functions and the stakeholders. This important task is dedicated to the Direction Nationale de l‘Hydraulique in Mali and the Direction Nationale de l‘Hydraulique in Guinea.
In this Section you find a short outline of the hydrological regime of the Niger River Basin and the planned and existing infrastructure. Information on water levels and river flows is presented as well as an up-to-date status of the flooding of the Inner Niger Delta.
